Sometime during the late 90's, a group of seasoned L.A. musicians decided it would be fun if they could pull off a live rendering of the music of Boston. The result was Smokin, one of Southern California's most popular tribute bands. Nearly 10 years since it's inception, Smokin STILL holds the distinction of being the ONLY active tribute to Boston. It would seem that there aren't a lot of bands brave (or foolish) enough to attempt to emulate some of the most uniquely detailed and deeply layered music ever recorded. The boys of Smokin like that just fine.

Smokin has been performing all across the country since the turn of the century (including a jaunt to Boston to do a show put together by original Boston drummer Jim Masdea) but was sidelined for an extended period after key members left to persue other avenues. The long dry spell resulted from the difficulty in finding a singer who could handle the one of a kind Brad Delp vocals. 2006 proved to be the proverbial pot at the end of the rainbow with the discovery of vocalist/guitarist David Victor and multi-instrumentalist Victor Bender. Long story short, the band is now back and better than ever! More so than ever before, the magic of the original Boston recordings are aptly recreated from the huge multi-layered vocal harmonies to the uplifting, razor sharp dual guitar leads with all the hit songs. Smokin never ceases to amaze audiences and comments like "I had to remind myself I wasn't listening to the real thing" are commonplace.

One only needs to notice the heavy rotation that Boston continues to receive on any classic rock radio station to witness ther durable popularity. With that popularity and a bevy of highly familiar hit songs at their disposal, Smokin never fails to find and hold an enthusiastic audience. Now with the passing of Boston's lead vocalist Brad Delp, Smokin hopes to fill this loss with their highly accurate and spirited renderings of the band's classic song catalog. Five seasoned players and some of the best classic rock ever recorded - SMOKIN is guaranteed to please!
