GOIN' PUBLIC

GOIN' PUBLIC is a new contemporary jazz band that funks and grooves over hip-hop as well as delivering cool jazz sounds like no one else you've ever heard. Johnnie Valentino, leader of the L.A. based group says, "GOIN' PUBLIC is a musical process which has many faces that we tried to put into form by borrowing from the past, maintaining its integrity while continually pushing the music forward in new directions".

The band's self-titled debut album is a combination of kicking contemporary jazz cuts like "Windowpain", "Leap In", and "Undecidedly So", with smooth jazz songs like "Promised Land", and Miles tribute "Out of the Blue". Plus the unique soundscape songs like "Kennedy's Dream" and "Psychedelic Tendencies" show GOIN' PUBLIC's talent and versatility which sets them apart from the rest.

GOIN' PUBLIC features musicians Johnnie Valentino (guitar), Rick Rossi (sax), Ken Burgomaster (keyboards), Allen McGrier (bass), and Jim DiJulio (drums). With guest performers such as bassist Alphonso Johnson (Weather Report), trumpeter Oscar Brashear (Joe Sample), bass clarinetist Bennie Maupin (Herbie Hancock), drummer Sherman Ferguson (Kenny Burrell) and more, this CD is the ultimate combination of contemporary musical forms in jazz today.

  • WBAI, PART OF THE PACIFICIA NETWORK, NEW YORK CITY. MARK LAIOSA INTERVIEWED GOIN' PUBLIC ON AUGUST 14TH. ALSO, THEIR ACID JAZZ SHOW "LIQUID SOUND LOUNGE", HOSTED BY JEANNIE HOPPER ON SATURDAYS FROM 5-7 PM FEATURES THREE CUTS WHICH INCLUDE "KENNEDY'S DREAM", "LEAP IN", "PROMISED LAND".
  • WWIN, BALTIMORE URBAN STATION - KOLE PORTER SPINS ON "SUNDAY JAZZ BRUNCH". THE BAND WILL BE INTERVIEWED ON AN UPCOMING SUNDAY JAZZ SHOW.

  • WHCR, NYC. HARLEM COMMUNITY RADIO, GARY TANN HOSTS "HARLEM AFTER MIDNIGHT" ON WHICH HE FEATURES THE CUT "ONLY YOU". GARY RECEIVES MANY INQUIRING CALLS. BROADCASTS FROM THE CITY UNIVERSITY OF NY IN CENTRAL HARLEM AND REACHES THE BRONX.
  • WRFG, ATLANTA JAZZ STATION, ADDED TO PLAYLIST AUGUST 4TH. LADY "J" JUST LOVES THIS RECORD AND SPINS MANY CUTS. HER FAVORITE IS "KENNEDY'S DREAM" OF WHICH SHE CLOSED HER SHOW WITH RECENTLY. DROP LINES WERE REQUESTED OF THE BAND. LADY "J" ALSO DJ'S AT A LOCAL HOT SPOT WHERE SHE IS SPINING GOIN' PUBLIC ON ROTATION.
  • "CITIZEN PLANET RADIO", IS A SYNDICATED SHOW HOSTED BY BARBARA BLAKE, HITS PARIS, SEATTLE, AND PHOENIX. BARBARA LOVES THE WHOLE ALBUM AND WAS THE FIRST RADIO HOST TO EMBRACE THIS ALBUM BEFORE IT WAS EVEN RELEASED.
